Does any of this hold up below 80 Hz?

Genuine question rather than a complaint. Almost every capture in circulation was made with a guitar, and almost every discussion about whether they sound right is about the mids. For bass, the interesting region is the fundamental, and I am not convinced the training material usually covers it. If the sweep going in does not have much energy at 40 Hz, the model has not seen much at 40 Hz. Has anyone done this deliberately — trained on material that actually covers the bottom two octaves — and compared? I would rather find out than assume it is fine.

Good question and I do not think anyone has done it properly. What I can say from the recording side: if your sweep has no energy down there, neither does your training data, and the model has not learned that region. Whether it then extrapolates sensibly or badly, I genuinely do not know.

Bench observation rather than an answer: bass amps behave differently down there in ways that are about the power supply rather than the preamp. Sag under a low note is a slow effect. Whether the window is long enough to catch that is exactly your question, and I would like to know too.
