JCM800 2203 — edge of breakup, master at 4

A 1983 2203 with the master at 4 and presence at 6. Cleans up off the volume knob, which is the whole reason to capture it here.

How it was made

Head is a 1983 JCM800 2203, single channel, master volume. Captured amp-only into a load box — no cab, so you will need an IR after this or it will sound thin and harsh. That is not a fault in the capture; a head capture models the head. Settings: preamp 6, master 4, bass 5, mid 7, treble 6, presence 6. One setting, because a .nam is a snapshot of the amp as it was. Reamped through a Shure SM57 on a 1960A with a V30, cap edge, about an inch back. Signal peaked around −8 dB going in, exported 24-bit 48 kHz mono.
